Visit of the conference on Esca in South Tirol: “ESCA Krankheit im Visier”
Three people from the Institute Viti Vinicole (Serge Fischer, Christopher Simon) and LIST (Dr. Miriam Machwitz) visited the conference “ESCA Krankheit im Visier” which was organised by the advisory association “Beratungsring Südtirol”.
Three people from the Institute Viti Vinicole (Serge Fischer, Christopher Simon) and LIST (Dr. Miriam Machwitz) visited the conference “ESCA Krankheit im Visier” which was organised by the advisory association “Beratungsring Südtirol”. The event took place on the 10th of November 2022 in St. Michael/Eppan, Italy.
The talks focused on strategies to handle the disease Esca in viticulture which became a major challenge in South Tirol as well as in all other vine regions in Central Europe including Luxembourg. All speakers could observe and show good results by applying the trunk surgery followed by the application of gentle pruning afterwards to avoid further symptom development. Trunk surgery is not applied yet in Luxembourg. In the framework of the MonESCA project, trainings on trunk surgery will be organised to also establish this promising management strategy in the Mosel valley.
